Construction is slated to begin next month on a 5.7-megawatt solar array in Grand Isle that will be the largest in the state that’s selling its energy within Vermont, according to the developer.
Gregg Beldock, CEO of Shelburne-based Bullrock Corp., said at least one larger solar installation has received a permit in Vermont, but he said the energy from that project will be sold in Connecticut.
Electricity from Bullrock’s project in Grand Isle, which will be built on 37 acres leased from Dream Walker Farm, will be sold to Vermont Electric Co-op.
“It’s certainly the largest [solar array] built in Vermont for Vermonters,” Beldock said.
VEC will use the electricity and the renewable energy credits the project generates to satisfy state laws requiring that utilities get a certain portion of their electricity from renewable sources such as the sun, wind or water.
Beldock said construction will begin in July and that he hopes to have it completed by Dec. 1.
